@Pellaeon:
What I meant by “warranted” was that while I appreciate what you and Ms. Bloom were saying about me in that situation, I didn’t do it for the reasons you suggested; now, having said that, I can certainly see and accept what you’re saying now, how what I said was in truth doing Ms. But She’s So Nice! a fave, etc. Fair enough.
You know, I’ve not read a lot of The Rules Revisited. Think I’ll start by hitting up the links you posted.
I’m very familiar with Ms. Clarisse Thorn – in fact she and I have tussled a bit over at her blog (when haven’t I tussled with somebody, right?), and she doesn’t have a very high opinion of EvoPsych, which is kind of SOP for any Feminist. I’m curious to know what you think of her book though – do tell!

The bar meme is assuming (usually accurately) that for most women, unless she were really ugly, that there will be at least 1 man (and usually more) that would be willing to have sex with her. It doesn’t mean that all or even most men would be interested, though the hotter the woman, the more men would be interested. I think it is an accurate meme.
As to your inverted-U, that’s different than just plain old sexual attraction. You’re really describing your attraction response to be an S-curve of sorts. But then how you act or feel has the confidence-to-approach function multiplied on top, resulting in the inverted U.
